聖保羅書院校長：每個學生都獨一無二

當今時代，教育方法不斷推陳出新。香港中學教育雖然體系成熟，但並不完美。香港也曾進行過中學教改，旨在提升學生綜合素質，增強競爭力，培養新世代人才，惟貫徹落實中遇到困難。有教育界人士指出，某些原本用於推行綜合素質教育而設立的項目，由於缺乏實效和足夠合理的量化方式，正逐漸淪為「走過場」。本次節目我們請到了聖保羅書院校長源迪恩，討論香港現行的教育體系。

主持︰Mr Yuen, can you tell us more about yourself? As we all know that you are the principal of St. Paul's College, can you tell us how do you become the principal of St. Paul's College?

源先生，你能給我們介紹一下你自己嗎？我們都知道你是聖保羅書院的校長，是否可以告訴我們你是如何得到這個職位的嗎？

嘉賓︰I was actually born and bred in HK. After completing Form 7 or matriculation in HK, I went to Australia to continue my tertiary studies, majoring in English literature and psychology, very rare choices at that time. After coming back to HK, I started teaching English and Religious Studies at St. Paul's College, and now I am the principal of the College.

我是在香港出生和長大的。在香港讀完了中七之後，我去了澳大利亞完成高等教育，主修英國文學和心理學，這在當時是非常冷門的選擇。回到香港後，我開始在聖保羅書院教授英語和宗教研究，現在我是這個學校的校長。

I'm also the Chairman of Grant Schools Council, which consists of 22 very reputable schools in HK. I have served the College for 30 years, a college that I am very proud of in my teaching life. It's like a second home to me now, and I spend my formative years really at the college.

我同時也是香港補助學校議會的主席，成員包括香港22所非常著名的學校。我為這個書院服務了30年，在我的整個教學生涯中，對這所書院感到非常自豪，它現在真的就像我的第二個家，我在那裏度過了我的成長歲月。

主持︰So you know inside-out about your school, about the college. Can you tell us more about the school and what is the strength of the College?

所以你肯定對你的學校瞭如指掌，那你能多介紹一下嗎？書院的優勢是什麼？

嘉賓︰Well, I'm sure you know St. Paul's College is actually the oldest school in HK. It was founded in 1851 by the Anglican Church which is now known as the HK Sheng Kung Hui. Last year, we celebrated our 170th anniversary, and we have been educating younger generations of HK for 170 years.

你應該知道，聖保羅書院其實是香港最古老的學校。它於1851年由聖公會成立，現在被稱為香港聖公會。去年我們慶祝了170周年紀念日，我們已經為一代又一代的香港年輕人提供了170年的教育。

The mission of the school is to provide bilingual quality and all-round education for young people of HK based on Christian principles. And currently St. Paul's College is located at Bonham Road which is opposite HKU, where most of our students go to for their further studies. We often joke about the fact that it's very easy for them to go to HKU, because they just need to cross the road. So this is a rough introduction of St. Paul's College.

學校的使命是在基督教原則的基礎上，為年輕人提供高質量的雙語通才教育。聖保羅書院位於香港大學對面的般咸道，我們大部分學生之後都能考進港大繼續進修，所以我們經常開玩笑說，他們去港大非常容易，因為只需要過馬路就可以了，這是聖保羅書院的大概介紹。

And of course, as you probably know we have a lot of very famous alumni, and some of the names known to you are people like Mr Tsang Yok-sing and Mr Tsang Tak-sing, and in the medical field perhaps some recent names that might have come to your notice, like Professor Hui Shu-cheong and Dr Tsang Kay-yan.

當然，你可能知道我們有很多非常有名的校友，比如曾鈺成先生和曾德成先生，在醫學領域則有許樹昌教授和曾祈殷醫生。

We actually have different alumni in different sectors of society, because basically St. Paul's College is a very liberal school. We provide a lot of autonomy freedom and opportunities for our students to explore their interests. We understand that each student is unique, so we provide them with lots of choices, lots of opportunities, so that they can get to know more about themselves and find their own Niche, and that's why our graduates they all work in different sectors of society, ranging from people in the Legislative Council to the medical field, to the business sectors or lawyers, teachers and social workers.

其實我們在社會的不同領域都有傑出校友，因為聖保羅書院是一間非常自由的學校，為學生提供很多各種各樣的學習計劃，讓他們探索自己的興趣。我們知道每個學生都是獨一無二的，所以我們為學生提供選擇和機會，使他們能夠了解並找到自己的專長，所以我們的畢業生最後會投身於不同領域，從立法會到醫療領域，或者是商業、律師、教師和社會工作者。
