新聞聯：堅決支持法院判決　捍衛香港法治根基

2月9日，香港特區高等法院對黎智英作出量刑裁決，就其串謀勾結外部勢力危害國家安全等罪名，依法判處監禁20年。判刑充分體現香港特區依法懲治危害國安犯罪的堅定決心和堅強意志。正如特首李家超所言，黎智英罪行滔天、惡貫滿盈，此次重判彰顯法治、伸張正義，大快人心。香港新聞工作者聯會（新聞聯）發表聲明對此表示堅決支持。

聲明表示，部分美西方媒體及所謂記者組織，無視自身國家嚴苛的國安法律、無視黎智英嚴重的犯罪事實，肆意詆毀香港法治與自由，粗暴干預中國內政和香港司法，充分暴露其虛偽的雙重標準與干涉別國內政的險惡用心。

聲明指出，香港市民不會忘記，以黎智英為首的亂港勢力，長期以來操控輿論工具肆意製造和傳播謠言，挑撥對立、煽動仇恨、美化暴力，並為反中亂港分子和「港獨」勢力提供資金支持，觸碰國家主權安全底線。法庭經過156天的審訊，頒下855頁詳盡判詞，以無可辯駁的證據證詞，充分說明其罪大惡極、罪有應得。

聲明續指，事實上，黎智英案與新聞自由毫無關係。香港居民依法行使各項權利，享有各種自由，包括言論、新聞、出版的自由。香港國安法實施5年多來，檢控的危害國家安全犯罪案件佔全部刑事案件的比例不到0.2%；目前在特區政府新聞發布系統註冊的本地、內地和海外傳媒機構有200多家，進入香港的境外新聞媒體有增無減。這充分說明，所謂「香港國安法損害人權和新聞言論自由」「以言入罪」等謠言，在事實面前不攻自破。

新聞聯敦促相關組織立即停止對香港法治和新聞自由的無理攻擊，任何假借「新聞自由」之名、干預香港特區內部事務的行徑，注定徒勞。新聞聯堅定支持特區政府繼續依法懲治破壞國家安全的一切行為，推動香港加快邁向由治及興。

Firmly Support the Court's Judgment, Safeguard the Rule of Law in Hong Kong

On 9 February, the High Court of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) handed down its sentence on Jimmy Lai, imposing a total of 20 years of imprisonment for offences including conspiracy to collude with foreign forces to endanger national security. The sentence fully demonstrates the firm resolve and strong will of the HKSAR in punishing crimes endangering national security in accordance with the law. As stated by Chief Executive John Lee, Jimmy Lai has committed heinous crimes and is thoroughly evil. This heavy sentence upholds the rule of law, delivers justice, and is widely welcomed. The Hong Kong Federation of Journalists (HKFJ)  expresses its firm support for the judgment.

It is utterly disgraceful that some Western media and so-called journalist organisations, turning a blind eye to their own countries' stringent national security laws and Jimmy Lai's grave criminal facts, wantonly slander the rule of law and freedoms in Hong Kong and grossly interfere in China's internal affairs and Hong Kong's judicial affairs. This fully exposes their hypocritical double standards and malicious intent to meddle in other countries' internal affairs.

The people of Hong Kong will not forget that the anti-China, destabilising forces led by Jimmy Lai have long manipulated public opinion tools to fabricate and spread rumours, provoke confrontation, incite hatred, whitewash violence, and provide financial support to anti-China, destabilising elements and "Hong Kong independence" forces, crossing the bottom line of national sovereignty and security. After 156 days of trial and an 855-page detailed judgment, the court presented irrefutable evidence and testimony, fully proving that his crimes are extremely serious and that the punishment is well-deserved.

In fact, the Jimmy Lai case has nothing to do with press freedom. Hong Kong residents exercise various rights and enjoy all kinds of freedoms in accordance with the law, including the freedoms of speech, press and publication. Over the five years since the implementation of the Hong Kong National Security Law, cases of crimes endangering national security prosecuted account for less than 0.2% of all criminal cases. There are currently more than 200 local, mainland and overseas media organisations registered with the HKSAR Government's Information Services Department, and the number of overseas media outlets operating in Hong Kong has been on the rise. This fully proves that rumours such as "the Hong Kong National Security Law undermines human rights and press freedom" and "criminalisation of speech" collapse in the face of facts.

The HKFJ urges relevant organisations to immediately stop their unwarranted attacks on the rule of law and press freedom in Hong Kong. Any act of interfering in the internal affairs of the HKSAR under the pretext of "press freedom" is doomed to failure. The HKFJ firmly supports the HKSAR Government in continuing to punish all acts that undermine national security in accordance with the law, and in driving Hong Kong to accelerate progress from stability to prosperity.
