當Covid-19新冠肺炎疫情稍為緩和之際，又有了傳播力更強的變種病毒Omicron，防疫絕不能鬆懈，時常都要提高警覺，留心事態發展，就如英文的一句說法︰keep your eyes open。

對人說keep your eyes open（張開眼睛），就是提醒別人時刻保持警惕，密切注意，即是要留心周圍事物，知道身處環境存在的問題以及可以採取的行動。因此，聽到人對你說keep your eyes open for something or someone的時候，就要留心事態，警覺到可能出現的好或不好的事或人。亦可用keep your eyes out。

New Covid variants may appear anytime. We need to keep our eyes open.

隨時都會有新冠肺炎的新變種病毒出現。我們必須保持警惕。

While you are hiking, keep your eyes out for trail signs. Otherwise you may lose your way.

行山時，應時常留意山徑的標誌，否則有可能迷路。

You have to keep your eyes open for sales if you want to buy a new laptop at a reduced price.

如果想購買減價的新手提電腦，就要時常留意促銷資訊。

如要加強一點語氣，那就可以說keep a weather eye open / out（像仰觀天象一般張開眼睛）。其中的weather eye是航海術語，海員需要不時留意天氣轉變，以策安全，所以keep a weather eye open即是隨時保持高度警惕，經常留心，以便察覺任何變化徵象，避免可能出現的危險，或者作出適時的應對。

The government needs to keep a weather eye open so that necessary measures can be carried out to deal with the latest situation of the pandemic.

政府真的要保持高度警覺，留意進展，以便採取必須措施應對疫情的最新狀況。

There are security guards who keep a weather eye out for suspicious people around the building. It should be rather safe.

大廈有保安員駐守，嚴密監察大廈附近是否有可疑人物出現。應該相當安全。

如果要口語化一點地提醒別人留心、警覺，那就可以說keep your eyes peeled / skinned（擦亮你的雙眼）。當中用到的peel和skin都可用作動詞，意思是「去皮」，例如把水果皮去掉，keep your eyes peeled / skinned 即是移開眼皮，打開眼睛，看清周遭。

亦有說笑peeled一字與英國的勞勃·皮爾爵士（Sir Robert Peel）有關，他於1829年成立英國倫敦都市警察部。據說因為Robert Peel，當年的警察就有了peelers或bobbies的綽號，後來bobbies成為倫敦警察的暱稱，peelers消失了，卻遺留在口頭用語keep your eyes peeled，說要像警察般謹慎留神。所以如果有人提醒你說to keep your eyes peeled，意思是要你持續保持高度警覺，小心注意觀察周圍境況。

I am not sure whether there are wild boars in this area, but keep your eyes peeled.

我不能肯定附近是不是有野豬出沒，不過我們打醒精神，留意觀察，小心為上。

He kept his eyes skinned to make sure he was not followed.

他十分小心地不時察看周圍，看有沒有人跟蹤他。

Many people now keep their eyes peeled on health issues.

現時很多人對健康問題保持高度警覺，小心留意。

疫情期間，大家都應該互相提醒，要小心和警惕，不要掉以輕心。說到留心觀察變化，保持警覺，英文用語有簡單的keep your eyes open，亦有其他不同說法keep a weather eye open，又或者keep your eyes peeled/skinned，意思相近。小心和警惕一點，就可保持身心健康。
